Our History

The name, Pathway, carries a sense of hope and implies direction. Many people today are lost and need direction. We want Pathway to be a place where people can gain a direction toward a relationship with Christ.

Name & Vision

The Pathway name originated our of our vision for Pathway. We believe every person is at a different point on their spiritual journey. Our desire is to be a church that meets people where they are in life, and then walks with them as they respond to the grace of God. Sometimes this will require quietly supporting people as Christ works in their lives. Other times this will require encouraging people to take the next step in their relationship with God.

At Pathway we hope to be co-workers with Christ, seeking to meet the needs of the unchurched and sharing with them the joy found in a relationship with God.

Planting the Seed

Eric and Kimberly Hallett were approached in November 1994 by the Atlantic District of the Wesleyan Church to go to Bangor, Maine to plant a new church. Through much prayer they sensed God's direction and believed that Bangor was where the Lord was leading them to serve. In May 1995, soon after Eric and Kimberly graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, they packed their things for their big move to Bangor. Since living in Bangor, it was confirmed to them that the move was all in God's plan. When the Halletts first moved, they did not know a soul in the city, but the Lord brought many wonderful people into their paths and slowly the core group of pathway began to develop. On March 24, 1996, the first morning worship service was conducted at the Bangor Motor Inn Conference Center. In attendance were 77 people which included 28 outside visitors and 49 local people from the Bangor Area.

The church continued under Pastor Eric's leadership until the summer of 2001 when he returned to seminary to further his education. Pathway appointed Rev. Mel Norton as their new senior pastor.  Also, Lic. AJ Thomas joined the staff is an assistant for a year.  Pastor Mel served as Senior Pastor until June of 2003.

Presently Rev. Mike Tapper serves as the senior pastor and strives to give direction for the challenges that face a young church with a constant focus on our Mission Statement.
